Have you been handing out resumes for a couple of weeks now, and have finally received a call back from a company interested in granting you an interview? Whether you live in an Alexandria zip code or somewhere else, even getting an interview these days is a big step. You want to ace this interview, as in reality it is the only thing standing between you and your dream job in electronic design and manufacturing or whatever you have applied for.

The first step you need to take in order to ace your interview is to hit the books, or rather, the Internet. Time was when you didn't need to know too much about a company in order to get the job; you could rely on your own background alone. Today, though, companies want to know that you are interested in them. You might not have to know what type of boiler water treatment chemical they use in their manufacturing plants, but there are some key pieces of information you should find out before you go in.

That information includes, first of all, how large the company is. Do they operate internationally, nationally, or just here in Georgia? Do they sell a wall mounted boiler to people overseas, or are their products and services put out on a smaller scale? How many employees do they have? Find out about company history and gross revenue, and so on.

Next, find out about the specific job you are applying for in the company. If you're looking at engineering, what kind of blow through valves does the company use? In accounting, find out some general information on payroll, benefits packages, public stock options, and so on.

Your research will show the interviewers not only that you know about their company, but also that you have skills when it comes to finding information. It also demonstrates a true interest in the job, which in turn indicates a willingness to commit.

Next, get yourself ready. No matter what job you are applying for, you should always try to dress up for the interview. Again, it's a sign of respect for the people interviewing you as well as for the company itself. If you have to, go to a department store to pick up some new clothes, looking at yourself under the fluorescent daylighting common in offices today.

Interviewing can be an unnerving process, but if you are prepared you need not worry. Ace this interview by arming yourself with information, and the job's as good as yours.
